My Future Essay

Synthesis Essay

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” The question asked so many times, and is rarely answered accurately because I, like many, changed my mind several times over the year. I now know that I want to be a registered nurse. Typically we don’t see many male nurses walking about hospitals, but I’m not at all worried about my choice because I know that’s what I want. As I look at the growing demand for the job, its pay, and hours, I felt there were more to nursing then this so I decided to think critically about the idea of nurses, and wanted to know, what type of nursing position are out there? I begin the search with this very basic question.
As I Google the search “Nursing,” I came across a web site called DiscoverNursing.com, and the site had lists of careers in the nursing field. Clinical Nurse, Cardiac Care, Nurse Anesthetist, Nurse Practitioner, and Oncology Nursing were the main pathways I found that seemed interesting. Out of all of them I decided to go with Nurse Anesthetist, which is a licensed nurse that administers anesthesia during surgery (Nursing Specialties). I found this source to be very helpful because is not only helped me narrow down my idea of nursing it let me to another question. One very important not only financially, but will affect the next five to six years of my life, and that is what kind of schooling is required to reach my goal as a Nurse Anesthetist?
This lead me to my next source, NurseWeek.com, and they told me on the site that I would need my four year bachelor’s degree as a RN, one year minimum of active RN licensed practice, followed by two years of a master’s program where I will learn proper anesthesia tactics. I am realizing and understanding that this goal is possible, on the site they mention that nursing in general is one of the top ten growing professions in the U.S. (Certified Nurse Anesthetists). I am able to see the...

My Education Is The Key To A Successful Future

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world;” this simple statement by South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, expresses a fundamental truth of the world- something as simple as education can change everything. A constantly changing geopolitical environment has continued to place increasing amounts of emphasis on obtaining a post-secondary school education. Despite this, as many as 16% of all Americans ages 16-24 drop out before completing a secondary school education and obtaining a diploma.(1) The question which few dare to consider, which I now find myself faced with, is simple: how my education is the key to a successful future. To completely grasp the extent which my education may impact the future, in a positive manner, two things must fall into consideration- how education will ensure a successful future for myself, and how it may enable me to ensure a successful future for those around me.
Before the importance of my education on society’s future success may be understood, first the importance of it to my personal being must be determined. A graduating senior, future West Point cadet, and subsequent United States Army officer upon graduation, the realization of what an education will contribute to my future is not lost on me; every aspect of education is vital to one becoming a successful and productive member of society. History’s importance can simply be summed with the age-old adage, “those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.” Mathematics and science teach of the world around us and how life works on its most basic levels, helping everyone understand themselves. Language, literature, and the cultural arts all work to endow people with a greater understanding of the more complex forms of human life and consciousness, in addition to giving many a sense of cultural identity. What my education will culminate in is making me aware of all that goes on around me, both directly and indirectly, and the reasoning and motivations behind it. During my career as an Army officer I will be faced with decisions that will put men and women’s lives in danger; there will be no room for hesitation, never will I be able to ask, “Why am I doing this?” By obtaining a premium education, by understanding the reasoning behind what I do, I will be able to quickly and confidently assess any situation and make decisions that will further the goals of democracy and peace.
“I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the...
