Children classes

Description:

We run small classes for age 4 to 10 at different levels. Our children’s classes are based on innovative French immersion teaching methods that make language-learning serious and fun. Our native French speaker teachers present the language and culture through tailored activities all in French. Children learn how to introduce themselves and others in French, express their wishes, needs, and desires. They are encouraged to interact in French during the class through stories, songs, educational games and fun activities. Classes are held completely in French to give your children the best chance to learn and speak French.

Classes are held on Saturday mornings, from 9.30am onward.

GCSE, A-Level and IB preparation

Description:

The Alliance Française de Cambridge offers classes specially tailored for students studying French for A-level or for the International Baccalaureat (IB). We maintain a close relationship with local schools, enabling us to understand and respond to the specific needs of each and every student.

Our small class sizes allow the Alliance Française teaching team to offer personalised help. Lessons target the four skills tested in the exams: hearing, conversation, written and listening comprehension. We reinforce students’ competence in these skills as we study the set themes required for the exam: Aspects of French-speaking society; Current trends and current issues; Artistic culture in the French-speaking world; Aspects of political life in the French-speaking world.

We also lay particular emphasis on learning and practising French grammar to the appropriate level for the exams (nouns, articles, adjectives, adverbs, quantifiers/intensifiers, pronouns, verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, number, quantity, and so on).

We test students’ knowledge and progress on a regular basis, including through mock exams.

Classes are held on Saturday mornings, from 12am onward.

Experience

After an eclectic career path including almost a decade working as an international tax lawyer (“avocat” member of the French Paris bar) and several years teaching economics, business, law and accounting as well as French and English in various multicultural settings, Emmanuelle Faure is currently the tax, legal and accounting officer of a small consultancy business specialized in motivation and change management.

As a Professor of Law at EHL, her goal is to make students aware, through varied real-life cases which bring law to life, that legal risk is everywhere.
With a focus on professional relevance beyond merely passing exams, Mrs Faure does not teach law as knowledge to be learned by heart but instead facilitates her students acquiring the competencies necessary to identify, assess and manage basic hospitality legal risk wherever they might end up working in the world.

To enhance learning in her large classes (100+ students), Mrs Faure borrows from on-line-education techniques as well as from the flipped classroom model where memorizing knowledge is mostly done at home while the activities required to learn how to apply this knowledge - which used to be assigned as homework - now take place in the classroom where the teacher and the other students can help.
Traditional lecturing in the classroom has thus been replaced in Mrs Faure’s classroom by a more interactive student-centred approach that promotes optimal learning.
